Ferrocene was discovered by accident. Its structure consists of an iron atom between two parallel rings of cyclopentadiene. The oxidation state of the iron atom in the center of ferrocene is +2, and each ring has a negative charge of one unit. Therefore, each ring contains 6 π electrons, which meets the requirement of the number of 4N +2 electrons in Hueckel's rule. Each ring of ferrocene is aromatic. The six electrons in each ring times two, plus the six π electrons in the iron divalent is exactly 18, which fits the 18-electron rule, so ferrocene is very stable. Chemical formula is Fe(C5H5)2, ferrocene by iron powder and cyclopentadiene heated in 300℃ nitrogen atmosphere, or by the action of anhydrous ferrous chloride and cyclopentadiene sodium in tetrahydrofuran and prepared, at room temperature for orange powder, also known as dicyclopentadiene iron, insoluble in water, 10% sodium hydroxide and hot concentrated hydrochloric acid, Soluble in dilute nitric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, benzene, ether, petroleum ether and tetrahydrofuran.

Ferrocene products for use

1) Two-dimensional hexagonal ordered mesoporous carbon (CMK-5) was synthesized by chemical vapor deposition and used as catalyst support for methanol oxidation.

2) Can also be used to produce synthetic ammonia catalyst, rubber curing agent.

12)Ferrocene can be used for various fuels, such as diesel, gasoline, heavy oil, coal and so on. Adding 0.1% ferrocene to diesel fuel can save 10-14% of fuel oil and reduce 30-80% of smoke in tail gas. Adding 0.3% to heavy oil and 0.2% ferrocene to coal reduced fuel consumption, while reducing smoke by 30%.

13) Used as radiation absorber and smoke inhibitor.

二茂铁的发现纯属偶然,二茂铁的结构为一个铁原子处在两个平行的环戊二烯的环之间,二茂铁中心铁原子的氧化态为+2,每个茂环带有一个单位负电荷。因此每个环含有6个π电子,符合休克尔规则中4n+2电子数的要求,二茂铁每个环都有芳香性。每个环的6个电子×2,再加上二价铁离子的6个d电子正好等于18,符合18电子规则,因此二茂铁非常稳定。化学式为Fe(C5H5)2,二茂铁由铁粉与环戊二烯在300℃的氮气氛中加热,或以无水氯化亚铁与环戊二烯合钠在四氢呋喃中作用而制得,常温下为橙黄色粉末,别名双环戊二烯合铁,不溶于水、10%氢氧化钠和热的浓盐酸,溶于稀硝酸、浓硫酸、苯、乙醚、石油醚和四氢呋喃。

二茂铁低毒,在贮存的时候需要注意储存在阴凉通风处、严禁受热、曝晒、并与氧化剂分开存放,保质期为12个月,过期复检合格仍可使用。

二茂铁产品应用用途(13个)
1)通过化学气相沉积法合成二维六方有序介孔碳(CMK-5),用作甲醇氧化的催化剂载体。
2)还可用于制作合成氨催化剂、橡胶熟化剂。
3)可代替汽油中有毒的四乙烯铅作为抗暴剂,制备高档无铅汽油,以消除燃油排出物对环境的污染及对人体的毒害。
4)合成二茂铁与富勒烯的分子杂化物(巴基二茂铁)。
5)热稳定剂、改进塑料、橡胶、纤维的热稳定性
6)在航天工业中二茂铁可用作*箭推进剂的燃速催化剂。
7)光稳定剂,可阻止聚乙烯对光的降解作用,用于农用地膜,可在一定时间内使其自然降解裂碎,不影响耕作施肥。
8)用作不对称催化中的手性配体支架。
9)制备二茂铁盐,用作温和氧化剂。
10)合成不对称二茂铁配体,可用作交叉偶联、氢化、烯丙基取代的催化剂。
11)太阳能电池应用中的二茂铁基电解质。
12)二茂铁可用于各种燃料,如柴油、汽油、重油、煤炭等。车用柴油中加0.1%的二茂铁,可节约燃料油10-14%,尾气中烟度下降30-80%。而在重油中加入0.3%,煤炭中加入0.2%的二茂铁,都可使燃料消耗下降,同时,烟度下降30%。
